Kelvin Grove

Kelvin Grove

Chinook Park, Kelvin Grove and Eagle Ridge are three southwest communities. Chinook Park was developed in 1959, Eagle Ridge in 1960 and Kelvin Grove in the 1960s. The area is well connected to Calgary’s major roadways, including Glenmore Trail, Crowchild Trail and 14th Street. The LRT is also nearby. In addition, the area is close to the Glenmore Reservoir and all of the associated recreational opportunities, including boat docks, regional bike paths, the Weaselhead Flats hiking, and Glenmore Park. Heritage Park, located in Eagle Ridge, is also a popular attraction. There is a public elementary school and Henry Wise Wood High School in the area.

The area’s community centre, located next to Henry Wise Wood High School, hosts a variety of programs, including yoga, karate, highland dancing, wood carving, hockey, soccer and tennis. The centre’s adjacent ice rinks are popular, and they are paved so they can be enjoyed by inline skaters in the summer. Basketball nets have also been installed. Although the community has not had a preschool for a number of years due to lack of demand, there are plans to reinstate one in the fall. There are also a number of special events held in the area each year, including the annual Halloween party, a skating party, an evening dinner and dance and an annual wingding to end the soccer season. Aside from putting on programs and events, the community association also acts as an advocate for residents, notably regarding traffic issues.
